The universe just got smaller and settlements are being attacked and overrun by bugs, cyborgs and the celestial-like Illuminates. Pick up a weapon, go through the training, and join the fight as a Helldiver! Helldivers, from developer Arrowhead and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, is a top-down, twin stick shooter exclusively for the PlayStation family of game systems. The cross-play feature allows for players to play together via the PSN, no matter which PlayStation they are on. Each player starts the game with a primary and a secondary weapon both of which can be switched out and upgraded , a handful of grenades, and certain perks are unlocked as the player climbs in levels. Stratagems, which are incredibly helpful in missions, are also unlockable and upgradable. Stratagems include ammo drops, sentry guns a true life saver early on , strafing runs and more powerful weapons — including a heavily-armed mechsuit, and there are even vehicles like four-seat APVs and tanks. Helldivers is broken up into the three theaters of war:
Just my 2 cents: More recently I bought two of them: Freedom Wars and Helldivers. Freedom Wars is a hunting game, in the same vein as Monster Hunter and other games alike. After sinking dozens of hours in the game and finishing the single player portion of the game, I discovered that I had only scratched the surfaced, as the hardest and coolest missions and better rewards and craft materials were available only in multiplayer.
Actually even the single player portion of the game would have been more fun and easier if played alongside other players online.

EA filed a patent in to tinker with online matchmaking for better player engagement January 9, admin 0 Comments Categories News A few months back two patent applications submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office by Electronic Arts surfaced online. Both of these patents were filed on March 8, and dealt with dynamically altering the player experience. One of the patents dealt with dynamically changing the difficulty of a game to better keep players interested.
The second, more malicious and exploitable patent dealt with how EA handled its online matchmaking. The algorithm, named Engagement Optimized Matchmaking EOMM , is designed as the name states for the sole purpose of keeping you engaged in online games. The factors that go into this algorithm run the gambit from interaction, play style, sportsmanship, willingness to spend money, and skill.
On the application, EA states that it is applying for the patent to improve player engagement, but this is EA we are talking about. EOMM allows one to easily plug in different types of predictive models to achieve the optimization. The matchmaking patent is the one that we as consumers should keep an eye on — it has the most potential to exploit our wallets.
But for now, since these are only applications, it is nothing to seal the gates on just yet. When can we expect these patents to be approved or denied?
Copy provided by developer. Arrowhead Studios are a strange bunch. Helldivers meets this and, with reckless abandon, blasts off into space to extend the utter insanity to the rest of the universe. If you do, when you inevitably buy Helldivers you can look it up in the in-game encyclopedia. I was perfectly happy clearing my first few planets solo, thinking I would be able to avoid the scourge that is multiplayer gaming once again.
As you move your way through the missions, watching the sheer insane number of kills, deaths and accidentals rack up as you and the myriad of other players online at any one time, you start to encounter the more challenging difficulties.
The delay problems inherent to crowd funding can get even worse when coupled with the dreaded “Early Access” phenomena. The only thing I do not like about HotS is matchmaking, it is pretty bad at the moment. Once they fix up matchmaking, it will be a nearly perfect game. Pillars of Eternity itself was created as a love letter to.
Anyone up for Friday diving? Each region has its own patch approvals process and schedule, we are committed to providing fixes as soon as they are available in each region. It is not something we can fix overnight, but we are working on a smoother experiece!

Sun, 22 Nov The tennis spin-off has often found a fascinating middle-ground between depth and accessibility, though the home console entries have often been focused on simple court-based fun. A blend of chaos, reflexes and strategy, the Mario Tennis series has continually evolved from its main Nintendo 64 debut; Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash , sadly, is a mis-hit.

My topic here is inspired by Kermut’s thread. I blame him for the time I’ve lost writing this even though I said I would stop trying to explain balance to WG. This post is going to be waaay too long for a tl;dr. If you don’t want to read it, that’s fine. If you don’t want to read all of it, that’s fine as well. Read the parts you want to know about; that’s why I’m formatting this post with bold face category titles.
The devs stated the next patch should fix the problems. I’m really looking forward to seeing it in action. but a little leery of the low population killing the matchmaking quality. Games I Recommend. Foxhole – I love this game! It’s probably my game of the year. aka twin stick shooters, until I found Helldivers.
Jan From Wikipedia The game is set in a procedurally generated universe where the community must fight three different enemy species to ensure the survival of fictional Super Earth. Gameplay takes place on one of several procedurally-generated open world missions where players must accomplish a series of objectives. The players are required to make their own decisions, where to deploy, in what order objectives should be completed and when to call down certain pieces of equipment, referred to as stratagems within the game.
Before missions the players select from a wide variety of weapons, perks and stratagems to accomplish their objectives. Multiplayer As with Arrowhead Game Studios’s previous title Magicka friendly fire, the ability to harm teammates, is always on and there is no way to disable the feature. This requires the players to carefully plan their actions during the games many chaotic combat sequences. Difficulty When the game was shown during Gamescom the game’s difficulty included three levels: Challenging, Hard, or “Hell Dive”.
The build presented at E3 and Gamescom however indicated there to be more than 9 difficulties, depending on which planet the player chose.

Please let us know how you are finding your connections since the maintenance. Leave your comments in this thread: We are bugging people everyday for updates and there are definitely technicians looking into it. I know how frustrating these ongoing PSN connection issues are when all you crave is to spread Managed Democracy to your favourite reaches of the galaxy, alongside your comrades in arms.
I mean — I just wanna drop in and shoot some alien scum with you as well!
Optimized the matchmaking so that it broadens the search distance of potential games to join. Of course a number of bugs have also been addressed: Valkyries can no longer interrupt spear thrust attack recovery with shield block.
Coffee Grinder United States [Beeman and I had questions about where to drop this post, apologies if it’s in the wrong place. It really struck a chord with me and made me reflect on why I had stopped playing games for a bit. My response got too ridiculously long for an email, so I decided to post it to the forums instead of burdening our moderators with a dissertation.
I don’t think the necessities of teamwork and specialization are causing the frustration discussed. I think the main issue to focus on is that people, barring those Dark Souls weirdos, generally don’t like getting their asses kicked. Rather than altering game mechanics, I think these team games could be much, much more enjoyable if the industry put more attention into better matchmaking. The fact that the mechanics of many multiplayer games are getting more and more complicated isn’t generally a bad thing.
We’ve gone from just shooting each other, to having special guns, to grenades, to vehicles, to special classes and abilities, to now all of the above plus building structures in the middle of battles. There may be some nostalgia for “elegant weapons for a more civilized age” in this case probably railguns instead of lightsabers , but overall, more widgets and abilities have made multiplayer games “better. There we can also see that in order to cope with the intricacies of match-ups at top-level play, specialization is a necessity.
Teams games allow for even more complicated attacks and defenses. Greater and greater coordination and specialization inevitably allow teams to execute more complex and crazier fights. In turn, these crazy complicated fights allow hardcore players to develop and explore ever more fascinating approaches and strategies.
Grav The only mention I see on the forums is one that I made. My request in the “recommend me a game” thread resulted in me purchasing Wurm Unlimited which I recommend if it interests you, but we’ve got a thread on it already. The next week, however, Grav went on sale. I haven’t played enough to give a recommendation but it’s interesting.

As police roamed in packs of six telling families, who were quietly having a drink, to pour them out was so sad. Surely if we are to celebrate our nation, and all that it represents, our citizens should have the right to enjoy a beer! I found it more offensive for people blowing their cigarette smoke than the people next to us being surrounded by six policemen as they supervised them pouring out their beers. What a damn shame.
These are good law abiding citizens made to feel bad about about having a drink! But when they are forced to concentrate on menial tasks, the real issues are ignored. How many people were riding bikes there without helmets? How many people let off flares?

Mar 01, · Also, I don’t think its my router’s issue that I can’t join an online session in Helldivers since I’ve been reading reports of the same issue from other players currently.
Eager to see more ‘hits’, the oddball, super colourful third-person competitive shooter seemed like a peculiar announcement – both fundamentally Nintendo-esque and, at the same time, extremely unlikely and out-of-place. That was clearly a minority view, however, with a positive reaction around the web to the quirky reveal. Perhaps it was the unfamiliar fresh faces that introduced it, or the fact it was a new IP and a flash of creativity among established names, but it certainly caught the imagination.
It was a hit on the show floor, too, with the frantic eight player matches earning plenty of plaudits, all contributing to the sense that the big N enjoyed a strong show. Now, due before the next LA extravaganza, we have the upcoming arrival of the Wii U exclusive. The question that’s got us thinking is less whether it’ll sell well to dedicated Nintendo fans and Wii U owners, but whether the shooter could be an unlikely mainstream success to add weight to those already on the console – such as Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.
Could Splatoon join that hardy band of titles with appeal beyond the devoted defenders of the Wii U, and play its part in boosting the system’s reputation with the broader gaming community? Can it even shift some extra systems in the appeal it’ll add to the console? These were some of the questions we asked you in a recent poll article, and plenty of votes were cast on these topics.
